Some healing can't be hurried. Neither can a garden.
I'm Katie Winer, a licensed therapist for adults and teens (16+). I work online across three states with people navigating anxiety, complex trauma, addiction, and life after high-control groups — with patience, precision, and sometimes a living plant between us.
Therapy is a relationship that asks for courage, honesty, and trust. I don't take that lightly — and I don't rush it.
I'm a seasoned, inclusive therapist for insightful, sensitive people who feel stuck and want their freedom back. My approach is authentic, attentive, and educational — tailored session by session, with regular honest conversations about what's working.
Everything happens online, through a secure platform built for counseling, from your phone, tablet, or computer.

Areas of focus
Six areas I know deeply — including one that very few therapists anywhere are trained to hold.
Religious Trauma & Cult Recovery Rare specialty
Born into a high-control group, or drawn in as an adult — leaving is only the first step. I help ex-members rebuild trust in their own perceptions, learn boundaries, form healthy community, and build an identity that belongs to them.
02Anxiety
The most common struggle in the country, and one of the most treatable. Prolonged exposure, shame resilience, CBT, REBT, and mindfulness — so worry stops running your days.
03Complex Trauma
Not one dramatic event — a pattern of harm repeated over time. Attachment-based therapy, narrative work, DBT skills, and steady boundary training.
04Addiction & Recovery
Years in residential and intensive outpatient treatment shaped my approach: shame resilience, mindfulness, community, respectful accountability, and the 12 steps where they help.
05Binge Eating & Body Dysmorphia
Our culture teaches body hatred. I don't. Health at Every Size© and Body Trust© help untangle shame from food while you live in a world that hasn't caught up yet.
06Life Transitions
New homes, new careers, new chapters, hard endings. You don't need a diagnosis to deserve support. Solution-focused brief therapy gets you unstuck.
Therapeutic Horticulture
A living plant becomes part of our counseling work. Decades of research show the person–plant relationship calms the nervous system, builds genuine reciprocal care, and offers meaning through the seasons and stages of a life — a plant's, and yours.
-
Fully online, by designYou tend the plant with your own two hands. I guide the process on video — in many ways it works better this way.
-
Simple, inexpensive suppliesGather your own, or I'll mail you a kit at exactly what it cost me, plus shipping.
-
Woven through everythingHorticulture appears across nearly all of my specialties — from anxiety to complex trauma. Almost no other practice offers it.
"My goal is to help you heal the wounds you carry — from your lifetime, or your lineage — so you're free for the parts of life that matter most."Katie Winer · MA, LPC, LMHC
Hello, I'm Katie (she/her, they/them)
I've spent more than fifteen years in the hard places — crisis intervention, residential addiction treatment, therapeutic horseback riding, and over a decade running my own practice. That history is why my work is calm. I've seen what people survive, and I've seen them grow past it.
I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling and advanced training in Complex PTSD treatment, DBT, Body Trust©, The Work of Byron Katie, equine-assisted therapy, and Therapeutic Horticulture. I see individuals of all races, sizes, abilities, gender identities, and sexual orientations.
